Solera Sherry

This was the first sherry I have ever tasted, and I had it at a Specs wine tasting (of course!). I never really knew what to think about sherry, but I looked it up and its pretty much just like a port – fortified wine. This one was ok, I bought a bottle for about $13 to try it some more because it was so interesting. When I opened it, I thought it tasted a bit raisiny and was almost a brownish color. It wasn’t really THAT good, and I think I prefer the ports I’ve been having. I would be interested in trying other ones to see if they are all similar.

Aviary Wine Bar

My friend had a coupon here, so what a great opportunity to all get together and try a new place! Its on South Congress and is a really artsy place with crazy paintings on the wall and lots of interesting places to sit. I believe the front of it is also a store. The cool thing about this place is you can get $10 wine flights of anything on the wine list! This is a really fun place to go and share all the flights, because you could theoretically try a lot of wines. There are 3 wines in each flight and they come in cute little glasses – I think the owner said they were Russian tea cups.
We ended up getting 3 flights, and most of the wines were really good. I would definitely go here again!

Naia Verdejo 2007

I bought this wine a while ago on a recommendation, and it turned out to be just ok. Its a verdejo, which I don't know much about, and I believe it is from Spain. From its description I thought it might end up being like a sauvignon blanc, and it kinda was with a bit of citrus and acidity. It was alright, but the flavors just weren't really for me and I didnt't end up loving it. It's one of those wines I give a "meh" to.

White Wine Poll

The results of the white wine poll are in, and I must say they are not too surprising! :) The most popular white wine was riesling, followed by a 3 way tie between sauvignon blanc, muscat, and pinot grigio! Chardonnay only had 2 votes which was a BIT odd I thought because I always thought that was a very popular type of white. Thanks for voting everyone!

Schmitt Sohne Spatlese

My mom really loves their Auslese, so I recommended she try the other very similar Rieslings they have. The auslese is like $14 and the spatlese is only around $10. I think she ended up liking this one, although maybe not quite as much as the auslese. In my opinion, both are TOO drinkable! They only have between 8 – 9% alcohol and I bet I could down a couple glasses without even realizing it or feeling the effects.
